it involved in discovering the message you want to communicate in your
painting? Want to develop more confidence in your choices?
This workshop teaches you how to use the principles of colour and texture
arrangement to create a sense of unity in your paintings while providing
variety and contrast to stimulate, direct and inform the viewer.
Students will be encouraged to use these principles to develop a personal
palette and style in the relaxed and playful atmosphere that is always
created in Mary’s classes.

SEPTEMBER
September 13-18 - Personalizing Subject Matter
Location: Amherst Island
Contact: Sharon Campbell, Loyalist College, 613-969-1913
ext 2467 or scampbel@loyalist.on.ca
Another escape to The Lodge on Amherst Island, located south of Kingston, Ontario in Lake Ontario. A short ferry ride takes you away from your usual routines and into the autumn splendour of this quiet island. Enjoy some of the best food offered at art retreats.
A workshop to encourage you to think out of the box. Mary offers a freer, looser interpretation of subject matter whether it be figurative, still life or landscape. Explore the process of analyzing a subject to discover the elements that draw you (texture, colour, forms, personal memories, etc.) then bring your personal perceptions to canvas or paper. Class discussions, examination of the work of great representational and abstract artists and demos will encourage you to explore the creative process of interacting with your painting as you make decisions, take risks (purposefully or intuitively), gradually eliminate early possibilities and, finally, allow your personal interpretation to stand.
