Munchlax by Jony

The final version of this abstractiion. After completing a drawing that he was satisfied with, Jony drew the image of the toy on a 24"x36" canvas (Take note all who are afraid of larger supports - this was an eight-year-old boy.) He then spent a great deal of time drawing all of the curvilinear shapes with a pencil after deciding that the shapes in the background would be similar to, but much larger than, the shapes in the figure. He then outlined all of the shapes with orange (background) and blue (figure). Only after all of that, did he select the colours he wanted to work with - a rather large palette; however he played some of the colours throughout the pictorial space (yellow-green, white and blue, for example). He has an inate sense of value and composition.
I think this is a great example of risk-taking and thoughtful planning.
